Shirish
S. Naik graduated in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute
of Technology, Mumbai in 1976 in the discipline of Civil Engineering,
and subsequently obtained his M.Tech and PhD in Environmental
Engineering from the same Institute.
Started his career as Site-in-charge, Sewage Treatment Plant,
Kudremukh Iron Ore Project, Karnataka for
M/s. Hydraulic & General Engineers Ltd. in 1977-78.
Worked
as Project Engineer in Environmental Engineering Consultants in
1979-80; independently handled treatability studies for Burroughs
Welcome, MINDIA (PIL), Rallis India Ltd. and GNFC.
Worked as a Consulting Engineer to the consortium of M/s John
Tailor & Company U.K. and M/s Shah Technical Consultants Ltd.
Mumbai on the World Bank funded water supply, treatment, sewerage
and sewage treatment project in Maharashtra, in 1980-81. Project
covered 6 towns and 104 villages in the vicinity of Mumbai. Dr.
Naiks role in the project was organization and supervision
of reconnaissance and detailed surveys, development of design
criteria, process, hydraulic and detailed engineering design,
preparation of tender documents, evaluation of bids, etc. Dr.
Naik also worked on a variety of sewage treatment plants, pumping
stations, industrial wastewater treatment projects, guided feasibility
studies and detailed engineering of Treatment plants.
Joined Tata Consulting Engineers Ltd. in 1982 and was member of
a project team for Comprehensive Feasibility Studies on Delhis
water supply system.
Joined the faculty of Environmental Engineering at The Indian
Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai in 1983. At IIT, he was extremely
active in Teaching, Research and Consultancy. Conducted a number
of training programs for Industrial and Government undertakings
on various aspects of Environmental Engineering.
Lectured at IIT for 6 years at the post graduate level. While
in IIT, he completed a variety of Consultancy assignments, one
of them being the Master Plan for Environmental Assessment in
the State of Goa for the Goa State Pollution Control Board. He
also visited England while pursuing collaborative research on
Wastewater treatment system optimization with the University of
Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. After 6 years at IIT, Dr. Naik resigned and
founded the NaikEnviro Group. As a consultant to M/s Electrowatt
Engineering Services, Muscat he provided vital inputs on upgradation
of Sewage Treatment plants at seven Vocational Training Institutes
in the State of Oman.
Dr. Naik has also been a consultant to the World Bank for the
study of Institutional Arrangements for Environmental Management
in Mumbai. He has conducted Training Programs in Mumbai on behalf
of the World Bank on Environmental Audit, Hazardous Waste Management
and Risk Assessment.
Dr. Naik, as the Managing Director of NaikEnviro, is specifically
involved in the design and detailing of Package Water and Wastewater
treatment systems with emphasis on recycle/reuse. He has extensive
experience in the field of turnkey projects for water and Waste
Water Treatment, Pumping Stations, Air Pollution Control, Environmental
Impact Assessment and Hazardous Waste Management and has executed
over 100 projects in the above areas.
